McHugh-Russell Next time!

Well folks I was obviously very disappointed with the election results last night, but I think that Toronto did an excellent job sending the message to the Conservatives that we're not buying the BS they are selling.

I heard a bit of Harper's speech and he said that"effective immediately" the GST would be dropped one percent and that the other one percent will be coming, I haven't noticed that anything I've bought today was any cheaper, this could be for one of 2 reasons 1) one percent dosen't make a freaking difference or 2) Because even though he said he was doing it I don't actually think that retailers have put it into practice, mind you all I've bought today was a soup and a couple of coffees.

No matter what, I'm just thankful that it's a conservative minority, which will have an affect on the house voting when it comes time for the policies that this narrow minded administration has up it's sleeve.
Especially since Paul Martin was one of the longest survivors of a minority government! Let's get Harper out by Canada Day, I know it's never going to happen, the Liberals aren't ready for another election yet, they have to wait until Harper makes a big Faux-Pas.

I emailed my candidate this morning to personally thank him for running in my riding.

Etobicoke-Lakeshore was a riding without options lastdoesn't t so it doesn't surprise me that many of the residents kept with what was familiar even if that does mean electing a man who has not lived in this country in my lifetime and has no plans to live in the riding that he represents.

In case anyone is interested the breakdown for the Etobicoke-Lakeshore riding was as follows: a total of 56,157 votes were cast which may seem like a lot but according to my research that means that 23,007 eligible voters didn't bother.

According to the Elections Canada Website the riding profile is:
'The electoral district of Etobicoke--Lakeshore (Ontario) has a population of 113,914 with 79,164 registered voters and 211 polling divisions'

The count:

Liberal-24,641
Conservative-19,651
NDP- 8,710
Green-2,830
Communist-188
Marxist Leninist-137

I'm not going to dwell on it though because maybe Harper will redeem himself, with a Kim Campbell length term. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Here I am at work on Saturday morning...

I'm pretty sleepy but it's 11:30 and I've been here since 8:00 checking tax data for our plans. It's confusing and complicated so I won't even begin to try to explain it but it must be sone. There was suposed to be more people in to help but I guess the weather is too bad.
It did snow this morning although you wouldn't be able to tell by looking out the window now.

Tonight we're going to Sasha's cousin's band's show at the Kathedral, it should be okay, I'm definately going to have a nap when I get home though so I'm not falling asleep by 11:00.

Whoo hoo for Cassandra!!!! On Thursday we had a department meeting from about 9:30 to 11:00 so I coudn't get online for the Edge pre-sale for Oasis tickets but the wonderful Cassandra ordered them for me!!! I checked with Ravi yesterday and his tickets are just 4 rows in front of mine so that's pretty cool!

Not too much else to report, my latest theory on the Pauls is that they were supposed to bring their CD to my party and maybe they didn't finish it in time so that is possibly why they didn't come. Regardless an email, voicemail or even a text message would at least reassure me that you guys are still alive!! Paul seriously I know that you read this, please let me know that you haven't been in some horrible accident! Even if you ditched me to hang out with Gary or Tom or something...let me know that you're still on the face of the earth!
