Back at it!
Hi there everyone I know that you have all missed me, I haven't posted in SOOOO long and lots of stuff has been going on with me! It's been over a month since I've posted at all and I haven't posted any life news since I got laid off.
I've had two jobs since I was laid off, I did data entry at the airport for about a month, it was pretty boring but not quite as bad as I had expected data entry to be. Don't get me wrong though, there's no way I would want to go back to that job!
Now I'm working for a benefit trustee company, I've been here since September 15, and don't ask me what a benefit trustee is cause I'm still not entirely sure. There is lots and lots of training and it's all pretty complicated but I've got a kickass cubicle with a window so I'm not complaining.
The biggest plus about this job is that I walk here from home.
It takes me about half an hour each way but there's no doubt that a walk is better than a bus ride. But that is a statement I will likely be reconsidering as the cold weather sets in.
The only downside is that because I'm temping again I'm making the same amount of money now that I was when I was only working four days a week at Alpha.
I guess the biggest news is that my parents are moving to Toronto.
My dad got a transfer to the Mr. Christie plant down on Lakeshore so they're going to be quite close; I can see the water tower at the factory from my balcony. I guess I'm a little mixed about the whole thing, it'll be nice to have them closer but I've really really gotten used to only seeing them 4-5 times a year.
My dad actually starts work down here next week. My mom will stay in Cornwall until the house is sold which is looking like it will happen quickly, they've had people calling about it since the sign went up, and even before the ad ran in the paper.
So, it looks like they are going to be living in Mississauga although they like to throw a couple of other close by cities into their search area like Burlington or Oakville. They just don't understand the fact that there are more than 5 cars on the highway during rush hour here. I'm trying to get them to remember what working in Montreal was like but it's not working. The best I came up with was when they told me that at 10:00 on a Saturday morning they made it from Oakville to the plant in under half an hour. I said that's good time but to get a reasonable comparison to rush hour traffic, they should have walked it.
My dad got one of those executive short-term apartments to stay in until they get themselves a real place and my mom moves down here.
My brother will be staying in Ottawa, where he goes to school. My parents are going to get a condo, my dad thinks he'll like it, but the man has never lived in anything but a house. I am going to give it a year and then I think that they will want to move again, I know that my dad is going to need more space than a condo has.
The weekend before last was, my cousin, Angela's wedding in Montreal.
Overall it was very nice although there was some craziness and drama much like everyone elses every family functions. And as expected I did end up spending time babysitting my 16-year old cousin Rebecca, my favorite was when I found her doing shots with the groom's party and one of the groomsmen asked me how old I was and then called me "jailbait."
Now in Canada that means too young, but who knows maybe he just meant that I looked like a cheap hooker. I don't think I did, check out my yahoo photo album to find out for yourself.
So this is what I learned about Americans at the wedding 16 perfect age for 30 something guy, but 24 is too young.
My conclusion, Americans are pervs!
This whole situation came to a boil when with a 30-something guy hanging by his lips off her neck she tried to convince me that it would be a good idea to go to the bar with him after the wedding reception had finished.
The only catch was that I had to be going with her or at the very least that was what she was going to tell her mom.
Right, this was, for obvious reasons, not cool with me at all so I got my mom to tell her mom that I didn't think that she should be allowed to go, but as many games of drunken telephone end in disaster this one did too.
I didn't do anything for Thanksgiving this weekend, with the wedding last weekend and my parents coming up to go condo hunting this weekend, I figured I would have had some sort of parental overload if I saw them three weeks in a row, so I actually spent most of the weekend watching Paul slowly move.
That's right I don't know if I had mentioned it already but here's a recap if I have.
Paul and Rusty are slowly moving their way across the street this month.
Maria moved out the weekend that I was in Montreal so her room had been available. When the three of us made the plan to have them move in it was partially based on the fact that Lexie would be moving out of our apartment the same weekend as Maria, but of course she has to go and make things complicated and to make the long story short she's not moving till the 29th now so unfortunately it looks like Rusty may be living in the living room for a few days.
But I'm all for that, she didn't even bother to tell me when her plans changed and only told me last Friday when she was moving. And I clearly explained to her that, that wasn't going to work so she'd better be expecting it. And if not and she doesn't like it, than she can just get right the hell out.
I'm just a little bitter.
I'm super-excited because coming up in just 18 days I'll be seeing INCUBUS in Hamilton!
Karin and I are going and it might end up being a bit tricky or us to meet there but we're gonna try. I'll have to figure out a way to get her to the GO station, because I can get us to the concert from there.
Unless one of the silver linings to having my parents in town starts to pay off and I can borrow their car.
The day after that is going to be a super good one too, because our good pal, Jeff Czuba is going to be visiting Toronto! He's coming up with a couple of friends to see the Green Day concert on the 2nd.
I'd love to go but it's the day after the Incubus show and unfortunately that's just too close together for two concerts to be in my current financial situation.
Other good news about Jeff is that his band has finished recording a bunch of songs and they are doing a split with 2 other bands with the help of the Riptides' label are putting out a CD.
The PG-13's are going to have 10 songs on it and it will be coming out sometime in mid-December (I'll have more specific details when I can confirm them).
And beginning in the new-year they will be starting their tour in Eastern Canada. So I'm very excited about that and will let everyone know all the details as I get them!
But that's all I"ve got for now!
